LECTOR / DRAMATURG

The title of the August 2008 issue of the Süddeutschen Zeitung’s youth magazine was "Ten Years of The Big Lebowski  – The Best Film With The Worst Fans.” Apparently its fans are unable to stop quoting the film or recalling every scene down to its smallest detail, like a bunch of stamp collectors. Worse things can happen to a filmmaker/author than having to suffer such notoriety; indeed, what could be better than films whose character development is lovingly devoted and yet merciless at the same time, or whose Fates are wrapped up in such strange yet appealing, in-your-face storylines?

Robert Buchschwenter has worked since 1996 as a free-lance dramaturg and script-doctor for feature, documentary and short films. He has also offered countless film workshops designed in particular for young and upcoming potential filmmakers.

In addition to this, Buchschwenter helds university teaching positions at both the Universities of Salzburg and Vienna in Film and Media Studies as well as in Script Development at Filmcollege Vienna. He has worked in film production and as a journalist for Austrian and international print media, radio and television, and published in diverse industry and scholarly journals. He was the business manager for the Festival of Austrian Film, DIAGONALE, during 2004-2005. Since 2005 he has been the program curator and moderator of the television show “Oktoskop” on Okto TV.

Buchschwenter has been on many Austrian and international juries, is a member of the Austrian Film Rating Commission, and is also on the board of directors of the Drehbuchforum Wien, Vienna’s script forum.
